Hi Lynn, Was walking in Kintyre above Killean the other day and came upon a gravestone in a very secluded place in the forest. The inscription on the stone states = James Macalister Hall Killean & Tangy Aug. 1 1922. Know that you have researched him and will forward pics to you of the stone if you want.
That would be great, thanks! We were there last year, and will be back this autumn, but usually in too much a hurry (friends to see elsewhere in Scotland) to see much.

I stumbled upon this stone the other day aswell, and a Google search of the inscription led me here. I had no idea it was someone so significant, in such a secluded place in the forest. Quite fascinating
Glad you found us, Andrew. Kind of makes you wonder who else might be buried in odd places whose markers just haven’t survived – or been discovered, doesn’t it?

I’m visiting Scotland and I’m a McAllister, and I was wondering if you could help me because I would like to know if there is anywhere I can join and learn more about where my family Heritage
There are two Macalister organisations in North America – Clan Macalister Society (clanmacalistersociety.org), which focuses on heritage, Highland games, etc., and Clan McAlister of America (clanmcalister.org), which focuses on genealogy, dna research, etc. If you take a look at the timeline attached to this blog, you will find a chronology of the clan’s history that might be of help. Please feel free to contact me off page (macalister.history@gmail.com) if you want to talk about your upcoming trip as I might be able to make some MacAlister-related suggestions for you there.

My 2nd great grandmother was Lizzie (Cora) McAllister (New Brunswick, Canada) and her father was Alexander McAllister (abt 1842) from Ireland. Alexander’s great grandfather, Charles McAllister (abt 1750, my 5th great grandfather). I can not find any information past Charles McAllister, but stumbled on this group 🙂 shout out from NB, Canada!

I have an ancestor I would like for you to see if you can find for me…
Chief William and I are cousins…. We have a common ancestor six generations back according to FT DNA records…. I asked him to send me the family tree that he used to prove his lineage to the Lord Lyon when he and Glenbarr, Angus Macalister, were both trying to secure the Title of Chief of Clan MacAlister but he has not been responsive…. Not sure why because we otherwise have a good relationship… I have been his Official Representative in America for some 20 years now… I paid for his FT DNA testing and through that found we were cousins…
I think we are talking a common ancestor around 1600 to 1700 time frame… I think that I have a lynk to Cushendale, Ireland to that common ancestor. I found a headstone of a Donald married to the Daughter of Loop in the old Layd Church yard around that time… FT DNA cousin Brad McAllister knows his family family immigrated from Cushendall… Brad is a Fourth Generation cousins and a seventh generation cousin to William and I assume that same common ancestor…. I read somewhere that there were sons of the Chief, possibly twins, that spent time in Cushendall, possibly visiting with their sister who was married to Donald…
I am stopped at finding my family beyond William McAllister,b.1820 He married a McCann but in a Church in Scotland. It is all a big mystery to me and I have been looking for 20 years and don’t have a lot of time left to find the link to William….
I would be delighted to have you take a look for me and I am more than willing to compensate you for your efforts… Let me know if you are interested and I will send you what I have….
